LEMON APPLES

4 firm York apples, cored but not peeled
3 Tbs water
3 medium lemons, cut into thin slices
sugar
butter
1. Cut apples into ΒΌ” slices. Place into skillet and add water and lemon slices. Cover apples with a good layer of sugar; dot with butter, and put the lid on.
2. Heat to boiling, reduce to simmer, and when apples are tender- remove the lid, stir and simmer until the juices become thick. Do not cook until the apples fall to pieces.
3. When ready to serve, remove lemon slices and serve warm.
