Barbecued Apple Crisp a la Mode

6 medium baking apples
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup quick cooking oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
vanilla ice cream


1. Peel and core apples. Slice and arrange in a greased 9x9-inch foil pan.

2. Mix sugar, oatmeal, flour and butter together until crumbly. Spread over the apples. Place pan in the center of the cooking grill; cover and vent.

3. If using a gas grill, light the edges of the grill only. If using coals, push the hot coals to the outside of the grill. The crisp should be cooking indirectly so that it does not burn.

4. Cook 35-40 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
