Ten in 10 Healthy Challenge: Who’s Participating?

Note to my readers: This healthy challenge is not going to be the new focus of my site. It’s a challenge that I will write about only on Saturdays. Recipe postings will occur, as usual, during the week.
Ten in Ten470

As of Saturday AM, Jan. 30, 2009… we have 341 passionate people who are (publicly) on board for getting healthy in 2010.  Participants are from 42 states and 15 countries!  There are many more observers who will follow along with us as we work toward our healthy goals.  It’s never too late to sign up and there is not a deadline.  We officially began the challenge on Jan. 2nd, but you can join in any time.  Just read the information on this post, email me your information, and I’ll add you to the participant list.  If you’re a participant, please review your information below… if I’ve made any errors or if you need to add anything, email or comment and let me know (therecipegirl {at} gmail}.

It’s important to note that the challenge (described here) is not a diet.  It’s a ten week commitment to make a healthy change in your life.  For some it will be a diet, for some it’s incorporating more exercise, for some it’s eating healthier, and for some it’s gaining weight.  It’s great that everyone can participate and have individual healthy goals.  Some people shared their motivations… upcoming weddings, husband coming home from Iraq soon, improving health conditions, 25 year class reunions, and training for 5K’s, 1/2 marathons and century bike rides.  Many people have signed on to do the Couch to 5K program, quite a few people have joined our Ten in 10 SparkPeople Team (join here for free http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_individual.asp?gid=38209&gcode=3USP1YE3BF), but most people just want to look good and feel better about themselves.  Ten weeks is a manageable amount of time to get us started on making lifelong healthy changes.

Here are the participants, divided up by region.  If you see yourself on the “unknown region” list at the end, please let me know where to place you.

I’ve always wondered why so many people in the U.S. divide the USA into sub-groups based on the states but don’t create sub-groups for other countries. That’s so interesting. There are city-states in other countries.

  8. 8

    Lori Lange — December 20, 2009 @ 7:09 AM

Mason- Interesting observation. I simply divided up USA because the bulk of the participants are from the USA. California itself is huge but I chose not to divide by regions. I’ve found that most people wish to be fairly anonymous in terms of where they live. If any of the participants outside of the US would like me to be more specific with their location, just let me know & I’ll add.

I stumbled across this post and decided this is what I need to get back on my losing weight wagon. In April or May this year I (re)started going to WW to lose weight and I lost about 12 pounds before I fell off the wagon. I’m scared to go back and find out how much I have gained back. Today I started the Couch to 5K program after finding it on this page. I’m in Central PA.

    Kate S. — January 5, 2010 @ 8:11 AM

Has become a food label fanatic! Thanks to this challenge and the fact that now we cook for my elderly father in law who needs to be on a low-fat/low salt diet –we have become much more aware of sodium levels/being realistic about portion sizes etc.
Salt is in everything!! It is definitely an eye opener.
We have even started to use our phones to look up restaurant nutritional info online before we order–for ex. at Olive Garden: grilled chicken and pasta, a big salad, glass of wine, AND dessert is still less fat, salt, calories than a half portion of alfredo chicken pasta
