Apple iPad Giveaway!

Happy Holidays from RecipeGirl and Kraft Foods!ย  Iโ€™m teaming up with Kraft Foods to give away an Apple iPad.ย  in celebration of their new Apple iPad app Big Fork Little Fork, weโ€™re giving away one 16GB Apple iPad with Wi-Fi (value $499) ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

This holiday season, Kraft Foods teamed up with celeb Chef Marcus Samuelsson to bring in an exclusive recipe collection for their iPad app Big Fork Little Fork

…aย  downloadable app that will help spice things up for moms and their kids working together in the kitchen.ย  The new content contains globally-inspired recipes, how-to videos and a ton of tips and tricks from Marcus himself to show just how easy it is to get everyone involved in creating meals together. The new content is really designed to bring both parents and children in the kitchen to make cooking a family affair (and a fun one at that!)

And now for the fun part: bringing this virtual cookbook into the kitchens of RecipeGirl readers! Below are some screenshots of the app and an example of a recipe from the new content pack. The interface is colorful, interactive, informative, and FUN!

    We love to make my mom’s pancake recipe together as a family. The kids always like to get in on the preparation, and it’s fairly simple so that makes it quick and easy:)

    I have two daughters, and I love having them with me in the kitchen even if the four year old sometimes spills ingredients and the three month old can only watch and chew on her hand ๐Ÿ™‚ What a great gift this would be for our family!

    Unfortunately, there is nothing I make with the family (my husband). My kitchen is too small and someone has to leave the area so people can get from one side to another.

    Sweet But Bitey Dip

    2 (8oz. each) cream cheese, softened
    1/3 of a jar of smuckers big size jar of peach preserves
    10 to 15 jalapeno slices, diced
    8 green onions, sliced and diced

    Mix above ingredients just until blended, not too long. Put saran wrap on counter. On top of saran wrap place Monterrey Jack cheese. With spatula form in the bowl and then place on to the cheese. Cover the cheese ball with more Monterrey Jack cheese.

    Cinnamon Buns

    2 pkgs. or 2 tbsp dry yeast
    ยฝ cup warm water (105-115 degrees)
    1ยผ cup buttermilk
    2 eggs
    5ยฝ -6 cups flour
    ยฝ cup butter, softened
    ยฝ cup sugar
    2 tsp baking powder
    2 tsp salt
    1 stick butter, very soft or melted
    cinnamon/ sugar (combine ยฝ cup sugar with ยผ-1/2 cup cinnamon)


    4 cups confectionerโ€™s sugar
    1 stick butter, softened
    1 tsp vanilla
    2-3 tbsp milk

    Cream sugar and butter. Stir in milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth and light.

    In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit until yeast bubbles and is frothy. Add buttermilk, eggs, 2 ยฝ cups flour, butter, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir until combined. Add more flour and mix until dough is easy to handle. Dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
    Place dough into large greased bowl and flip dough over. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in warm area until double.
    Turn dough out and divide in half.
    Working with the first half, roll dough on floured surface into a rectangle about 10×15 inches. Spread softened or melted butter over dough. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over dough. Roll up dough into log. Cut into 12 even buns. Place into well greased muffin tins or in greased 9x 13 inch pan. Repeat with remaining dough. Let rise until double. Bake in pre-heated 350 degree oven for 15-20 min. Brush with melted butter while still hot from oven. When cool, can be frosted.

    Applesauce! Oh, and chunky pear-sauce! Or even a hybrid of the two! My nephews, the kitchen connoisseurs, venture outside to pick apples and pears right from OUR trees, peel their harvest, and mash them up for some praise-worthy chow!

    What a delight it is to have backyard pickings and kids who share them with me!

    My mom’s side of the family is Mexican, so every Christmas we read the children’s story “Too Many Tamales” and spend an entire day making hundreds of tamales! All of my aunts and cousins join in to make the day happen. Then, each family eats their share of tamales Christmas morning for breakfast ๐Ÿ™‚ It is a family recipe (no one actually has the recipe right now except one of my aunts) and a tradition that will continue for years to come!

    We like making tortilla soup together–it turns out different every time! You add whatever you have on hand and the longer it sits the better it gets. The leftovers are the best.

    My kids love to cook with me – or pretend cook without me (but in the kitchen with real utensils.) Probably a favorite to help with especially for the older boys are cookies. (Chocolate chip get made most often, but DS2 loves white chocolate chip.)
    The younger boys like anything you can stir or pour.

    Definitely steamed mussels with pasta! My sister holds the huge bowl for me when I pour out all the mussels in spicy tomato sauce into it and then my mom takes care of the pasta while my dad makes the salad.

    I love to bake. I’m now a grandma to a 3 year old and 8 month old. I’m starting a tradition of making cookies when they come to grandma’s house.He gets to help mix the dough and put it on the tray. Hopefully, in years to come he’ll have sweet memories of spending days with me.

    It has been 10 years since my mother passed, so every Christmas since my sister and I try to make some of the same recipes that we all used to make together. Our favorite was Cranberry Jello Salad.

    1 bag of cranberries, 2 apples in food processor, combined with 2 small cherry jello, nuts, crushed pineapple and small marshmallows, place in a 9 x 13 pan and refrigerate.

    Spritz cookies. All the kids (big and little) enjoy seeing plain dough transform into green christmas trees, red hearts and white flowers/wreaths with candied cherry centers. I’ve shared the how-to with my daughter and soon it will be time to share with my granddaughters.
