 Amish Sugar Cookies

 

From the old country...
 

1 cup 

 

granulated sugar

 

1 cup 

 

powdered sugar, sifted

 

1 cup 

 

butter, softened

 

1 cup 

 

canola or vegetable oil

 

2 large 

 

eggs

 

1 tsp 

 

vanilla extract

 

4 ½ cups 

 

flour

 

1 tsp 

 

baking powder

 

1 tsp 

 

baking soda

 

1 tsp 

 

cream of tartar

In large bowl, combine sugars, butter and oil. Beat well. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.

In separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda and cream of tartar. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet. Mix together until well blended.

Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375 degrees. Form dough into small balls and flatten slightly with a fork. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

 Yield:  5 dozen small cookies, or 2 1/2 dozen large cookies

 Cooking Tips

*If you'd like, you can roll the balls in additional sugar.
