Fudge Nut Layer Bars
 

 Fudge Nut Layer Bars

 

Terrific blend of flavors in one bar...
 

1 cup 

 

semi-sweet chocolate chips

 

½ cup 

 

sweetened condensed milk

 

1 Tbs 

 

butter

 

¼ tsp 

 

salt

 

½ cup 

 

walnuts, finely chopped

 

1 tsp 

 

vanilla extract

 

1 ¼ cups 

 

flour

 

½ tsp 

 

baking soda

 

½ tsp 

 

salt

 

½ cup 

 

butter, softened

 

1 cup 

 

brown sugar, packed

 

1 large 

 

egg, unbeaten

 

1 tsp 

 

vanilla extract

 

1 ½ cups 

 

quick cooking oatmeal

 

¼ cup 

 

walnuts, finely chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 9x9" or 11x7" pan.

Melt first four ingredients in top of double boiler. Remove from heat and add ½ cup walnuts and 1 t. vanilla. Set aside.

Sift together flour, baking soda and ½ t. salt. Set aside.

Cream together butter and brown sugar. Add egg and 1 t. vanilla Stir in sifted dry ingredients and the rolled oats.

Press 2/3 of mixture into prepared pan. Spread with chocolate filling mixture. Crumble remaining batter over the filling and sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup chopped walnuts.

Bake 25-30 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool completely and cut into bars.

 

Yield: 30 bars
