Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies
 

 Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies

 

Grandma's are always the best!
 

1 cup 

 

shortening

 

1 cup 

 

brown sugar, packed

 

1 cup 

 

white sugar

 

2 large 

 

eggs, well beaten

 

1 Tbs 

 

vanilla extract

 

1 1/2 cups 

 

flour

 

1 tsp 

 

salt

 

1 tsp 

 

baking soda

 

1 Tbs 

 

cinnamon

 

3 cups 

 

oatmeal (do not use instant)

 

3/4 cup 

 

chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Set aside.

Sift flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Add to first mixture and mix well. Add nuts and raisins, if desired. Add oats last.

Spoon out by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove to a wire rack and cool completely.

*Oatmeal recommendation: McCann's Quick Cooking Irish Oatmeal

*If you'd like to add raisins to your oatmeal cookies, use 1 cup of raisins and reduce nuts to 1/2 cup.
