 Pound Cake

 

The old-fashioned recipe...
 

2 cups 

 

flour

 

1 tsp 

 

baking powder

 

½ tsp 

 

salt

 

6 large 

 

eggs, separated

 

2 cups 

 

granulated sugar

 

½ lb 

 

butter, softened

 

1 tsp 

 

vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour one loaf pan.

Mix flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl. Set aside.

In small bowl, beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside.

Rinse off beaters and cream butter with hand mixer in large bowl. Add sugar and beat until creamy. Add egg yolks, one at a time.

Gradually blend in dry mixture. Add vanilla. Blend egg whites into batter.

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for one hour. Test doneness with toothpick- insert into center and it should come out clean.
