In the
saucepan of a double boiler, mix flour, 1 cup
sugar, and salt; add water to make a smooth
paste in the bottom of the pan. |

Beat egg
yolks and milk together and add to paste. Place
over simmering water and stir constantly until
the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Remove
from heat and add butter and vanilla. |

Pour in a 2
quart pyrex that has been buttered and layered
with vanilla wafers and then bananas. |

Preheat oven
to 350 degrees F. |

Beat egg
whites until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in
the sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks
form. Spread over the pudding and bake until
golden. |
