Custard Bread Pudding
 

Custard Bread Pudding

 

Bakery quality bread makes the best bread pudding...
 

2 cups 

 

whole milk

 

1 cup 

 

heavy whipping cream

 

2 Tbs 

 

butter

 

5 large 

 

eggs, beaten slightly

 

1 tsp 

 

vanilla extract

 

2/3 cup 

 

granulated sugar

 

¼ tsp 

 

salt

 

3 cups 

 

dry bread cubes (5-6 slices)

 

 

 

ground cinnamon and nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Scald milk and cream in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Stir in butter to melt. Set pan aside to cool slightly.

In a mixing bowl, combine beaten eggs, vanilla, sugar, and salt. Gradually stir milk into egg mixture. Then stir in bread cubes.

Butter a 2 quart baking dish and pour in custard. Dash with cinnamon and nutmeg. Set dish in a pan of hot water.

Bake 35-50 minutes or until custard sets and knife inserted near center comes out clean.
