eggs, beaten slightly |

bread cubes (5-6 slices) |

ground cinnamon and nutmeg |

Preheat oven
to 350 degrees F. |

Scald milk
and cream in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Stir in
butter to melt. Set pan aside to cool slightly. |

In a mixing
bowl, combine beaten eggs, vanilla, sugar, and
salt. Gradually stir milk into egg mixture. Then
stir in bread cubes. |

Butter a 2
quart baking dish and pour in custard. Dash with
cinnamon and nutmeg. Set dish in a pan of hot
water. |

Bake 35-50
minutes or until custard sets and knife inserted
near center comes out clean.
