BARBECUE SAUCES:
Classic Barbecue Sauce
 

Classic Barbeque Sauce

 

Terrific with chicken...
 

 

 

SIMMER:

 

¼ cup 

 

cider vinegar

 

½ cup 

 

water

 

2 Tbs 

 

brown sugar

 

¼ tsp 

 

pepper

 

1½ tsp 

 

salt

 

1 thick 

 

lemon slice

 

¼ tsp 

 

cayenne pepper

 

¼ cup 

 

butter

 

1 Tbs 

 

prepared mustard

 

1 medium 

 

onion, sliced
 

 

 

 

ADD LATER:

 

½ cup 

 

ketchup

 

1½ tsp 

 

liquid smoke

 

2 Tbs 

 

worcestershire sauce

Combine the "simmer" ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Add additional ingredients, bring to a boil again and simmer for 2 minutes. Let cool.

Remove about ¾ cup of the sauce and refrigerate separately. Drench chicken in sauce and marinade overnight, if possible.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place chicken in pan, cover with foil, and bake 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Place chicken on hot grill to brown. Baste with reserved sauce that was set aside.
