SIDE DISHES - RICE and POTATO

This is a great side dish for a dinner party because you can prepare it in advance...
 

2 Tbs 

 

butter

 

2 cloves 

 

garlic, minced

 

2 ¼ lbs 

 

red potatoes, thinly sliced into rounds

 

 

 

salt and pepper to taste

 

 

 

ground nutmeg to taste

 

1 large 

 

egg

 

1 ¼ cups 

 

milk

 

¾ cup 

 

Gruyere cheese, grated

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Thickly butter a 13x9" baking dish, then sprinkle in the minced garlic.

Layer the potatoes in the dish and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

In medium bowl, beat egg with milk and pour the mixture over the potatoes so they are covered. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.

Bake 40-50 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the crust is firm and golden.

 

Servings: 6

 

 Cooking Tips

* The red potatoes look pretty with the peel on, but you may also peel any variety of potato and use it in this recipe.
