This is a great
side dish for a dinner party because you can prepare it
in advance...

butter |

garlic, minced |

red
potatoes, thinly sliced into rounds |

salt
and pepper to taste |

ground nutmeg to taste |

egg |

cups |

milk |

Gruyere cheese, grated |

Preheat oven
to 350 degrees F. |

Thickly
butter a 13x9" baking dish, then sprinkle in the
minced garlic. |

Layer the
potatoes in the dish and season with salt,
pepper and nutmeg. |

In medium
bowl, beat egg with milk and pour the mixture
over the potatoes so they are covered. Sprinkle
the grated cheese on top. |

Bake 40-50
minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the
crust is firm and golden. |

|
* The red potatoes
look pretty with the peel on, but you may also peel any
variety of potato and use it in this recipe. |
