Corn on the Cob with Bacon Butter 1

Here’s what I shared on Parade Magazine’s food blog this week: 5 Corn on the Cob Recipes (you’ll want to try this summer!)  Including this Corn on the Cob with Bacon Butter that my little RecipeBoy shared on his blog recently.  It’s good stuff (I promise!)

Culinary Covers End of July
Here’s what’s been shared on my other blog-  Culinary Covers– the last couple of weeks:  Honey- Tomato Bruschetta with Ricotta (SUCH a good summer appetizer recipe), Sambal Chicken Skewers (from the current cover of Bon Appetit), Bacon-Wrapped Corn on the Cob (looks crazy good to me!), and Classic Cream Scones with Peach Cobbler Jam (can’t wait to try that jam!)  Click on the recipe titles to check out what interests you.

Homemade Pickled Onions
I need to tell you about Pickled Onions.  Have you ever had them??  I ordered a wedge salad at a restaurant the other day, and they topped the salad with pickled red onions.  It was an awesome addition to the salad.  I can’t wait to make them at home and use them on salads and sandwiches.  I might even add them to tacos.  I spotted an easy recipe for pickled onions on the blog: Inspired Taste (this photo is theirs).

Recipe Girl Cookbook Recipes
Here are a few recipes I spotted this week from bloggers who are trying out The Recipe Girl Cookbook!  Cookin’ Canuck tried my Sweet Nectarine Crostini with Feta Cheese.  It happens to be a nice summer appetizer!  Crunchy Creamy Sweet is sharing my Banana Scones with Cinnamon Glaze (and a GIVEAWAY for my cookbook too!)  And Country Cleaver shared my Gingered Peach and Blueberry Baked Brie (and she’s also hosting a GIVEAWAY!)  Click the recipe titles to reach recipes that are of interest to you.  Visit Amazon to see more details about The Recipe Girl Cookbook 🙂

I was very excited to learn that an English teacher at my son’s new school is an author!   He has written 17 picture books and 6 teen novels.  The most exciting part is that this series of books I’m sharing from him today is being considered for movie rights!  The Book of Nonsense recently hit #1 on Kindle free Kit Lit Fantasy AND #1 in Action/Adventure! And the best part is that you can get a FREE download until 8/1!  This is exactly the sort of book that my son likes to read, so I went ahead and ordered all of them.

Here’s a description of The Book of NonsenseThe book is ancient, ravaged and full of utter nonsense. But the moment it enters Daphna and Dexter’s lives, bizarre things begin to happen. Why is their father, who found the book, suddenly so distant? Is the old man who took it from him some kind of hypnotist? Why is a giant, red-eyed boy menacing them? And what does their thirteenth birthday have to do with all this? Daphna and Dexter can’t stand each other, but they’ll have to work together to learn the truth about the Book of Nonsense – before their lives come apart completely.

Lobster Roll
I hope you’ve been having a nice summer.  My family just returned from a short vacation on Boston’s South Shore.  One of my successful missions while there was eating this Lobster Roll.  I love, Love, LOVE them.  My recipe for making lobster rolls at home is here:  Lemon Scented Lobster Rolls

Way Way Back
Last summer I shared about a movie that was being filmed a few doors down from where we rent a beach house:  The Way, Way Back.  It’s out now!  We saw it and loved it.  It was fun to see the place where we spend our summers up on the big screen, and it was just a good movie overall (my 12 year old enjoyed it too).  My husband had been offered up an “extra” role in which he carried a beach chair down the street in the background of filming… and unfortunately he didn’t make it into the movie.  So sad for him!  If you peek at my post from last summer, you may recognize some scenes in the movie!

Until next week, my friends!  Have a good one 🙂

We saw the movie last weekend, I loved it! But I would watch Allison Janney read a phone book, and she’s the main reason I wanted to see it–she was hysterically divine in The Way Way Back!!! Your young man looks sooo young in those “way way back to last summer” pictures, especially that last one.

    Oh, bacon AND corn?! Swoon!!!

This is my favorite summer edition of your ongoing series, Lori. Love the Corn on the Cob with Bacon Butter. Could there BE any better way to eat corn? (In my best Chandler Bing voice, LOL.) Aww…poor hubby! My sister was once an extra…in the film, Hoffa, filmed in Detroit (1992). She played Armand Assante’s wife. Her scenes were left on the cutting room floor as well. She was crushed. But, she had the chance to meet Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito, who directed. Meanwhile, those Sambal Chicken Skewers have gone viral at Pinterest. Thanks for sharing!

    • Lori Lange wrote:

Well that’s fun! My husband didn’t meet anyone (besides Steve Carell, who we’ve met many times), but it was fun all the same.

Corn on the cob with bacon butter? Bacon wrapped corn? I need to make corn with bacon very quickly as my mouth is watering! I love pickled onions and other vegetables. They add so much flavor. I haven’t made any yet, but I plan to. That lobster roll looks divine!
