Little Smokies Appetizer Recipe

You’ve probably seen this little smokies recipe around from time to time. It has been floating around on the internet forever, so the exact origin is probably impossible to nail down. These are nothing genius, they’re nothing gourmet, and they’re not even anything very special. HOWEVER, these are the appetizer on the table that everyone will gobble up immediately!

🛒Ingredients needed:

  • Chili Sauce: This is sold in a bottle near the ketchup.
  • Grape Jelly: Yep, the stuff you remember from your peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from the 70’s! This will bring great flavor and sweetness to this appetizer.
  • Lil’ Smokies: These are tiny cocktail sausages sold near the hot dogs in your market. Alternately, you can use chopped hot dogs.
  • toothpicks: (for serving)

    ➡️Recipe Tips:

    • If you are preparing this recipe as GLUTEN-FREE, just be sure to use brands of chili sauce, grape jelly and smokies that are known to be GF.
    • Lil Smokies is the brand of cocktail wieners that is most commonly found, but there is another brand that you can find at Costco, too.
    • I’ve seen this same recipe using red currant jelly, so you might want to give that a try.
    • Add some chopped, cooked bacon to the recipe.
    • A super easy version of this recipe is to just heat the smokies with some of your favorite barbecue sauce.

✔️What to do with Easy Lil Smokies Appetizer:

    • Make it in your crockpot early in the day for a Super Bowl party. The aroma will have everyone drooling by game time.
    • Bring these right in the crock pot to a potluck.
    • Have a little one who’s wanting to help? This is a perfect appetizer for your little mini-chef to make!

    ★How to Store:

Leftovers can be stored in a tightly sealed airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. Just pop them in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds to reheat (adjust based on how much you’re reheating).

    ❤️Why I love this recipe:

    1. When I have gluten-free guests at my parties, I love that this recipe is so easy to make gluten-free. I found an organic brand of chili sauce at Raley’s supermarket that is gluten-free, Welch’s grape jelly is also gluten-free, and the cocktail wieners I found at Costco are also gluten-free!
    2. These crockpot little smokies were a big crowd pleaser at my holiday party. They were steadily devoured throughout the night.
    3. You can never discount the ease factor and this appetizer is about as easy as it gets. Everyone loves that!
