Making classic lasagna can be a bit of a chore when you’re just trying to make a weeknight dinner. So isn’t it cool that there’s a much easier way to make it? Try making this ravioli lasagna instead! Frozen cheese ravioli is used in place of traditional lasagna noodles. No cooking of the ravioli is needed. You’ll be using the ravioli totally frozen, and they will defrost and cook during the baking process.

How to make Ravioli Lasagna:

The full, printable recipe is at the end of this post. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spray the inside of an 8×8-inch casserole dish with nonstick spray. Line a baking tray with foil (bake the casserole on top of this to catch any drips as it cooks).

The first step is preparing the meat sauce. Add the ground beef to a large skillet over high heat. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, and using a wooden spoon to break up the meat. Turn off the heat and stir in the marinara.
  1. Spread ⅓ of the meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared casserole dish.
  2. Layer ½ of the still-frozen ravioli on top of the sauce.
  3. Spread ⅓ of the meat sauce on top of the ravioli.
  4. Spread ½ of the mozzarella, and then ½ of the parmesan on top of the meat sauce.
  5. Layer the remaining ½ of the still-frozen ravioli on top of the sauce.
  6. Spread the remaining ⅓ of the meat sauce on top of the ravioli.
  7. Spread the remaining ½ of the mozzarella, and then the remaining ½ of the parmesan on top of the meat sauce.

Cover the casserole with foil. Place the casserole dish onto the lined baking tray, and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover the casserole and bake until the cheese on top starts to turn golden in spots, about 15 minutes. Let it cool for 10 minutes, and then sprinkle fresh basil on top to serve.

Spoon out individual servings. This recipe will serve 4 to 6 people, depending on how large the servings are. In my family, it would serve four!  I suggest sprinkling a little Parmesan cheese on top. Enjoy!

Hot tip!

A little tip for this recipe is to make sure you choose a kind of ravioli that you know you like. That can have everything to do with how this ravioli lasagna turns out. I really like the large, round cheese ravioli. They have good noodle coverage for making the lasagna layers, and they’re large enough to have a substantial filling inside of them.
