Ingredient Highlights

  • Fresh Lime Juice and Lime Zest: Using both juice and zest creates a stronger lime flavor than juice alone. The zest adds fragrant citrus oils that make the rice especially vibrant.
  • Fresh Cilantro: It gives the rice its signature color and herbaceous flavor. Add it after cooking to preserve its freshness.
  • Chicken Bouillon: A small amount of bouillon adds a subtle savory flavor that makes the rice taste like it’s been cooking all day.
  • Butter: It helps tie all of the flavors together while giving the rice a rich, silky texture.

What Makes This Rice So Flavorful?

Many cilantro lime rice recipes add all of the flavor after the rice is cooked.

This recipe starts building flavor right from the beginning.

The rice simmers in water seasoned with kosher salt, chicken bouillon and garlic salt, allowing every grain to absorb savory flavor as it cooks. Once the rice is tender, butter adds richness while fresh lime juice, lime zest and chopped cilantro create the signature bright finish.

The result is an easy rice side dish that’s layered with flavor instead of relying on lime alone.
